Live theatre has always had the power to spark revolution and ignite social reform. Since 1970 The Black Theatre Troupe has been a voice of the African-American community. As the only professional African-American theatre company in the four-corner states, BTT conducts educational workshops, outreach programs and produces quality plays, while fostering understanding outside the black community and bridging the divisions created throughout our nation’s history.
Audiences know that performances at the Black Theatre Troupe will provoke them to reflect deeply, strengthen their resolve and hopefully act on their convictions.

Our company is unique in the City of Phoenix in that it fulfills a need by providing a safe and nurturing environment specific to artists and people of color who are traditionally underserved. With our increasing growth, popularity and support for our main stage programs, comes added expectations and the responsibility to expand and enhance our youth, educational and community outreach programming.
