CURRENT SEASON

It has been said that stories were once as important to survival as a spear or a tool. They gave counsel. They connected the living with the dead. Stories distributed the suffering so it could be borne.

As we begin our 40th year of continuous operation, The Black Theatre Troupe, like many arts groups nationwide, is faced with the daunting task of developing strategies and programming to meet the demands of these economically challenging times. As has always been the case, these strategies must involve and continue to serve the community.

We sincerely believe that stories give us a vital opportunity to change our outlook on and our understanding of life and the challenges it sometimes presents. The Black Theatre Troupe’s 2009–2010 season Preserving the Past and Embracing the Future, promises to do that and more.

We have selected a season that is full of hope, laughter and human compassion – five stories that have the inner capacity to celebrate the mind, the spirit, the dignity of the individual and their ability to overcome humanity. Stories that we hope will appeal to everyone’s innate need to sometimes forget their troubles, escapefor a while and just have some fun.

The Black Theatre Troupe is proud to preserve the time-honored responsibility of sharing some powerful stories and embracing their importance.

Join us as we celebrate the one creative act that honors both our humanity and our spirituality–the art of telling stories.
